Accra's food scene goes far beyond jollof, waakye and kelewele, though you should eat plenty of those too. In Osu, Labone, Cantonments, Airport Residential and East Legon you'll find Asian, Middle Eastern, European and seafood restaurants alongside Ghanaian favourites.

Here is a selection of restaurants listed on SeekGhana. Details can change, so please call ahead to confirm opening hours, prices and availability before you go. Each listing page has the phone number and map location.

Tips for eating out in Accra

Reserve for weekends and holidays. Friday and Saturday nights, and the December season, get busy. Call ahead to book a table, especially for groups.

Check opening days. Some restaurants close on a particular weekday or open only for dinner. A quick call saves a wasted trip.

Ask about payment. Many restaurants accept cards and mobile money, but not all. Carry a backup. Check whether service charge and VAT are included in menu prices.

Plan transport. Ride-hailing apps are widely used in Accra and make late nights easier. Ask the restaurant for a nearby landmark for your driver.

Dietary needs. If you are vegetarian, halal, or have allergies, call ahead to ask what the kitchen can do.

Don't skip local food. Ask locals for their favourite chop bar or waakye spot. Some of Accra's best meals come from small, unassuming places.

Ghanaian food you should try in Accra

No food tour of Accra is complete without local dishes. Try jollof rice (and decide for yourself in the Ghana vs Nigeria debate), waakye (rice and beans, often eaten for breakfast), banku with tilapia and pepper sauce, fufu with light soup or groundnut soup, red red (bean stew with fried plantain), and kelewele, the spicy fried plantain sold by roadside vendors in the evening.

Many restaurants listed above also serve Ghanaian dishes alongside their international menus, so ask what's on the local menu.

Where to eat by area

Osu has the most variety, with restaurants, bars and street food on and around Oxford Street. Labone and Cantonments have quieter, upmarket spots. Airport Residential and East Legon suit business dinners. Along the coast, Labadi offers beachfront dining with live music at weekends.

Budget tips

Lunch menus and weekday specials are often cheaper than dinner. Local chop bars and food courts at the malls are good value, and portions are usually generous.
