Choosing an area
Takoradi Market Circle and the city centre: close to shops, banks and transport, but busy during the day.
Near the harbour and Airport Ridge: convenient for port and oil-and-gas business and for Takoradi Airport.
Beach Road and the coast: better for a relaxed stay with sea views.
Sekondi: the older twin city, quieter and close to the naval base and historic sites.
Booking tips
Book early on busy weeks. Industry events, conferences and holidays can fill business hotels. If you're travelling for work, ask about corporate rates.
Ask about transfers. Takoradi Airport has domestic flights from Accra, and STC and VIP buses run from Accra and Kumasi. Ask whether your hotel offers pickups.
Confirm the basics. Breakfast, Wi-Fi, parking, generator backup and payment options (card, mobile money, cash) are worth checking before you arrive.
Going on to the beaches? If you're heading to Busua or Cape Three Points, Takoradi makes a good overnight stop. Ask your hotel about trusted taxis or car hire for the trip.
While you're in Takoradi
Visit Market Circle for local fabrics and fresh fish, look out for the city's fantasy coffins and canoe art, and plan a day trip to the Western Region's forts and beaches.
Eating out in Takoradi
The Western Region is known for its seafood. Look for grilled tilapia and red fish, fresh lobster in season, and fante kenkey with fried fish and pepper. Hotels often have their own restaurants, but it's worth asking staff for their favourite local chop bars and seafood grills. Beach Road and the area around the harbour have places to eat with sea views.
Getting to Takoradi
By road: the Accra–Takoradi highway runs through Kasoa, Winneba and Cape Coast. The drive usually takes four to five hours depending on traffic, and longer at weekends and holidays. STC, VIP and other intercity buses run daily from Accra and Kumasi.
By air: domestic airlines fly between Accra and Takoradi Airport. Flights are quick but can sell out on weekdays when oil-and-gas staff travel, so book early.
Budget and longer stays
Contractors and rotational workers often stay for weeks at a time. If that's you, ask hotels about monthly rates, laundry, and meal plans, or look at serviced apartments and guesthouses. Compare the total cost, including transport to your worksite.
